Weather-Related Damage Investigations

Weather events can result in complex damage to a building’s fabric and structure, especially if a storm interacted with a pre-existing weakness or maintenance issue. With nearly 500 cases investigated to-date, we’ve the experience to explain what happened, how it happened, and exactly why it happened.

Our investigation process for this type of incident typically involves:

  • Scene Documentation: We’ll document the condition of the structure, using our experience to find damage and defects concealed from view by debris, and record the situation with key measurements and imagery.
  • Structural and Material Evaluation: We’ll analyse load paths, connection performance and material behaviour to understand where the structure resisted and failed.
  • Weather Data Analysis: We’ll find and analyse wind speeds and rainfall records for the incident date, and compare these to both historical records and modern engineering design standards to provide critical context for what happened.
  • Causal Analysis: We’ll differentiate between direct effects and pre-existing conditions such as design limitations, construction defects, deterioration or maintenance issues.
  • Reporting & Expert Support: We’ll deliver evidence-based reports that clearly describe our findings and conclusions.
